At Ormanköy, nature is an environment children build relationships with. Soil, plants, water and living things can become starting points for looking closely, comparing and asking questions. The school makes room for what children notice before offering an adult’s explanation.
Exploring through play
Natural and open-ended materials need not have one prescribed use. The same pieces can become a structure one day and part of a story the next. Ormanköy combines play-based learning with teacher guidance. Drawing, movement, storytelling and making offer different ways to explore and communicate.
The Reggio Emilia connection
The programme treats the learning environment as an invitation to explore. The arrangement and accessibility of materials contribute to that invitation. What children express through drawing, building or playing is considered alongside speech. Observation and documentation help share the learning process with families.
Living alongside nature
Looking after a seedling, returning materials and making space for a friend are everyday examples of responsibility. Garden and farm experiences offer opportunities to notice the needs of living things. Outdoor timing and conditions are considered alongside the season and daily plan.
